If you live in Southern California, consider flying in and out of the Tijuana airport. It’s one of the world’s only bi-national airports, located right against the border between Mexico and America — connected to the U.S. via a sealed bridge that goes up over the physical border.

Why fly in and out of Mexico? First, if you’re flying to anywhere in Mexico, you’ll have many more choices: the airport connects to 39 Mexican destinations. But the airport also serves many international destinations, especially Asia, and these flights will almost certainly be cheaper than anything out of the U.S.

Oh, and the airport also has expedited customs and immigration cooperation with the U.S., so you’ll also probably speed right through.

Michael and I both read a lot of library books on our Kindle e-readers, but when books expire on his newer LED Kindle, they’re immediately deleted. But on my older Paperwhite version, the book remains on my reader as long as I leave the WiFi off (but the book is still “returned” to the library, so the next reader can check it out).

Also, my battery lasts weeks, while his only lasts several days. Plus, because there’s only the most basic web service, I’m never tempted to check my email or distracted by notifications from apps, which lets me focus on my book.

Update: A reader says in the comments below that all the Paperwhite Kindles, including the newest model, as well as the Oasis models, “save” library books too, as long as the WiFi is turned off. It’s the Kindle Fires that don’t do this.

Did you have a delayed or cancelled flight, but you’re too busy to find out if you deserve some sort of compensation? Let AirHelp.com do it for you!

Yes, they’ll take a 35% cut if you end up getting anything, but the advantages are that (a) they know the rules and regulations way better than you do, (b) you won’t have to send endless emails or be on hold with the airline, and (c) if you end up getting nothing, you owe them nothing.

When traveling, always carry your own pen. You’ll need it more than you think. And, of course, you won’t have to use the same pen that’s already been used by two hundred other people…that day alone.
