We have both man made and natural rock pools in Hawaii. The most famous is the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium - currently under renovation. The natural pools are frequently called “Baby Beach” and are usually part of a larger beach. My local “Baby Beach” is at the western end of Baldwin Beach on Maui.
Aren't they wonderful? I have spent many an early morning swimming in Sydney's rock pools. They have them here in the UK too but it's rarely warm enough to use them. 😄 Great article!
Writing this from Sydney where we are visiting family for a few weeks. We were at Bilgola beach just south of Whale beach just a couple of days ago which has a great example, but it’s the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club where Sabrina learned to swim and Bondi Icebergs pool that hold the most memories for us, Michael.
I was delighted until you mentioned the occasional shark, but I'll forget I read that part. I'm on the Sea of Cortez in a not populated area in Sonora MX and it's tempting to go in but every time I do I get nipped, ripped see a zillion small sharks coming out of a net and pine for the Caribbean, but don't want to live over there. This is perfect! Enjoyed the read. Also as a PS every time I read and try to like your articles it asks me to subscribe (which I already have) and then I sub again and click the heart then it asks me to sub again. Not sure what that's about but it happens on a few others so I feel like you may have more subs than is noted? Anyway, I would spend hours in a rock pool!!!!
Not allowed! There's a lock next to your name at messages. could be settings or only for paid folks. but it also asked me to sign in again and didn't log my HEART like. Oh well. but it's michele.niesen at gm a i l
Ah, yeah, the DMs are a paid subscriber function. I looked at your subscription and it looked fine. Let's see if it happens on the next article you want to comment on!
I saw them on Tenerife, too. They’re so necessary there because of the waves. If only I had organized my photos better I could show you…but it’s midnight here and I’m tired. Thanks for this post! I will be enjoying these pools if/when I go to Australia!

Baby beach! Love it!
Can sharks or stinging things get tossed in the rock pool, too? Can you see down in the water to verify this before going in? Asks a fraidy cat.
Only VERY rarely and, yes, you can almost always see the bottom!
These look amazing! I’ve been two a couple in Tenerife which were perfect after a day hike. Also a lot of great surfing there.
One of my favorite things -- obviously! LOL.

Oh, yeah, I can't imagine swimming in one in the UK!
So true!

I walked Bigola one day! Lovely spot. Wish I could have swum just once at Bondi to say I had! LOL.

You’ve convinced me. Australia is now on my shortlist. And now I think I might be obsessed with rock pools.
I'm the gift that keeps on giving! 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😉
These look fascinating. I look forward to finding them next year.
The fact that they offer this kind of protection is a bonus!
The protection is definitely one of the bonuses!
Delightful story and pictures! Ready to book a flight!
They're waiting for you!
Great story. Would love to give this a go. Great way to start the day too!
A truly wonderful way!
Sounds like a great idea - kudos to the Aussies! 🏊 😍
They're a clever bunch!
Those look amazing! Incredible photos too, as always.
I've never seen these types of structures before, but they've just been added to my travel bucket list.
Thanks, Amran. When your first see one, I expect you to shriek "YES!," strip down to your undies and leap in.

I totally get you about organized photos. I spent one entire transatlantic flight totally redoing how I stored my photos. Total pain but worth it!
Wow! These look sooo amazing. Thanks for sharing!
It's what we do! LOL. Thanks for reading.
I did see those in Sliema but didn't have towels or swim trunks then. But we did swim over by Valletta, but not in rock pools.
