I'd never had much interest in visiting Australia, but I have to say your recent posts from there make it look pretty attractive.

When you mention the distances (such as being an hour from downtown Sydney), it occurs to me that the details of local travel could be an interesting topic if either of you care to write about that. Because you don't own cars, everywhere you go, you have to figure out how to get around without one. In the US, that's mostly a nightmare (though public transit is better and more available than a lot of Americans think, it's still very hit-or-miss), but I'd be curious how you have found this aspect of nomad-ing to be. If I recall, you have gone around on foot, by boat, by train, in cars with hired drivers, and in a variety of private-hire and public-transit vehicles ...

That is a GREAT topic! Thank you, we'll give it a whirl one of these days...

Australia is one of those places I would want to stay forever, but also a place that is harder to get citizenship without marrying a local. -which would be amazing too! The culture is so friendly, the land so beautiful, and the wildlife (for the most part) is so vibrant. It would be hard to leave.

It was hard to leave. I had the chance to immigrate there and my twenties and except for having met Brent, I can say I probably would've been very happy there.

Micheal, thank you for saying such nice things about our Airbnb at Whale Beach- your adventure travel writing has spread far and wide, even to my friends in Canberra!

I’m sorry to say that your timing to book with us did mean it was the pricier time of year (December and January), and you’re right, if you had booked for a month would have triggered greater discounts.

However, it was lucky we were available at that time and I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much. We hope you venture back this way again when it’s just as nice but a little more “off-peak.”

Happy travels :)

I had a feeling you were dedicated travellers but you REALLY are!

Canberra, huh? That's fun to hear! As for the cost of the Airbnb, it was worth every penny. It's become the standard by which we are measuring all other Airbnbs!

When I was in high school, I dreamed of going to Australia, in fact, tramping around the world. Gee, a very safe and conservative thing for a young woman to do. Life took me on many other paths, fascination in their own right. Gratefully, I can live my Australia dream vicariously through your vivid descriptions. Thank you, Michael. And you're right. The kookoobarras ARE laughing at us.
