My avoidance of Notes is purely about me. My brain responds strongly to the attention incentives of social media. It’s no good for me at any level. Not everybody has that problem! For me it’s like giving up potato chips or jelly beans or alcohol--I can only stick to it if I just don’t have the stuff around. I hope it remains a thoughtful and rich place for everyone who participates. 💖

Yeah I’m curious to see how Notes plays out. Mixed feelings.

I'm checking out Substack today, actually, because some of my Patreon patrons keep having payment issues. I ran a poll, and about a quarter of them said they'd hop over to a parallel Substack if there were one. So I may be joining you soon.

Thanks for this post, it’s important to stand up to fascist bullies who want to squash independent journalism to push their agendas. I’ve made donations to the NPR Network and my local NPR as a thanks for dropping Twitter and for their continuing journalistic excellence. I know you both both write about how Substack changed your careers, but as a reader, it’s exciting to be so close to writing like yours that has changed me for the better!

I recently started Twitter to practice writing short form before creating a newsletter. I can't stand social media on the whole, especially Instagram and FB... but I must say Reddit and Quora still hold my attention. I hope Notes replaces Twitter. It's a welcome newbie. Thanks for sharing this new option!
