Once again, lovely photos and great info. I see that you two spent quite a bit of time on Malta. Headed there mid-January. for just a week. Not the best time of year, I know, but after a long holiday housesit in Siena. Thoughts on what must be seen and done and should I make my base in Vallerta or plan to move around the island? Thanks!

Thank you very much, Reann! Appreciate the kind words.

As for Malta... Hmmm, it partly depends on what you like to do. Personally, I think it would be pretty easy to spend a week in Valletta and I'm not sure the effort of getting to other spots would be worth the effort, especially that time of year.

Although it occurs to me that the Blue Lagoon might be quite empty right then, which would be a huge plus. It's truly a beautiful spot but the day we went it was PACKED and absolutely hellish. We just went for a hike instead. So if there is a day with good weather and not rough seas, and you like boat trips, that could be a good experience.

But as for Valletta, itself. It's just a lovely, lovely place to walk around and explore the streets. You definitely need to go the Upper Barrakka Gardens, which gives you a great view over toward Birgu where we lived. It's a very short boat ride across the Grand Harbor, and I would definitely spend a few hours wandering around those gorgeous streets.

There are several forts on different sides of the Grand Harbor, also very much worth exploring. If you don't mind spending a bit of money, you could do something I wanted to do which was visit the Hypogeum. They only admit fifty people a day and it looked fascinating.

And definitely go to Mdina, the old capital. It's a short taxi ride away but I really did enjoy it.

I'll keep thinking and see if anything else occurs to me!

You are the best! Thank you for all your great ideas. Debbie and Michael have also shared theirs, and between you, I think I have a great idea of what to see and do. I remember them going to Gozo during the winter and their AirBnB had no heat and they almost froze to death!!! I think I'll stick with a day-trip there and return to warmth in a big city. So sorry I missed meeting you two last Thanksgiving when we were all in PV. Next time for sure.

My total pleasure. It was fun thinking back over what we did. And I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point.
