We're "Slomads," Damn it! And in 2024, We Plan to Travel as Slow-Moving Nomads Again
There's always a reason to move faster than we want.
The two of us are “slomads,” damn it!
That means we’re digital nomads who travel the world sloooooowly. As we travel, we try to stay in our various destinations for at least a month — or, preferably, two or three. This way, we think we get a better feel for the communities we live in.
More importantly, we keep ourselves sane. Brent says he’s the fussier one who needs lots of “time out” time, but Michael can eventually burn out too.
This is how we spent 2018, our very first year of nomading:
Three months in Miami, USA.
Two months in Birgu, Malta.
A month in Matera, Italy.
Three months in Bansko, Bulgaria.
A month-long transatlantic cruise back to the U.S for the holidays.
It’s true, we did some shorter-term touristing in between all these longer stops, but for the most part, we settled down for as long as our tourist visas would allow. And we did get to know these places; we made a ton of new friends, both local and expat; and we generally loved every minute.
Last year, 2023, played out very differently.
