Michael, that last photo is amazing. I couldn't stop looking at it (I may never paint my living room again--just let it age and maybe throw some reclaimed firewood in the corner...) Because of all of your early morning shots, I'm beginning to be swayed...my husband has always taken the early shots and I'm never late for the evening ones. Why do we even bother to a have two cameras? (; Janelle
Thanks so much, Janelle! That's lovely to hear. And I love your design esthetic because that would totally work for me! As for the morning, shots.... We've all got to do do what we've got to do!
Michael—I only got to this piece today as I’m catching up. What a wonderful article! I’ll be in Split in May for only a few days but think it would be great to check out this neighborhood. Thanks for this—I love it!
Love this--as an "armchair" traveler experiencing your adventures vicariously, this is exactly the kind of place I would seek out if I were on the road myself!
Thanks! Glad you got to see Varos. I literally walked by one of the tiny streets leading into the neighborhood every single day but it was so small I didn't think it went anywhere!
Michael, this post really moves me. Thank you. When I travel, it's tiny moments in places that aren't part of "the big things" that stay with me. You found a neighborhood full of those tiny things! Your photos will stay with me a long time, too. Glad to be on the journey with you!
Thanks so much, Lloyd! That it's the little things and not the big things is something I've gradually learned over our years of nomading. And so happy to have you with us.
I was once told that the secret to enjoyment is viewing each new situation with the innocence and curiosity of a child. We try to do that and have stumbled into many serendipitous things and places in our travels. We were only in Split for 10 days but the area around Varoš was one place i wanted to explore. Glad you found it!
Oooh, what a good way of thinking about it! One of the things I most love about photography is that it has taught me to look at the world in completely new ways. I hope you got to explore Varoš!
Oh I wish I'd had more time to explore - you found way more hidden gems that we did. Want to go back now😂
Alison
Maybe you'll get back there. If you do, Varos will be waiting for you!

Fingers crossed you get to do it soon yourself!
May be my favorite post. And I want one of those small houses!
Thanks so much, Tess! That's very sweet. And I'll let you buy the small house! LOL.
Yep. What a lovely post!
We visited Croatia a few years ago and Split was one of my favourite places because of it's twisty streets and historical architecture.
'Love it! :D

Excellent piece on Varos!
Thanks, Miles!
A charming reminder to look close around us for happiness.
Thanks, Nancy!

Did you get to see it for yourself?
Let me know when you come, and I'll give you directions so you don't miss it either!
