Love this. That really IS what travel is all about for me. And reminds me of a time in Japan in my early 20s when a group of local housewives decided to take me out for lunch. None of them spoke English, but they took it upon themselves to dress me up in a kimono, and half a dozen of them fussed around me, tweaking my hair and taking photos. I'm not sure it was entirely consensual - I felt like I was their doll for the day to play dress ups with - but it made a memorable story and they were incredibly generous with food and gifts 😊
Mom lived in a dementia home. One lady insisted on lining up the other residents, few of whom cooperated. She spoke poor English, somewhat more (and more grammatical) German. I couldn't figure it out. One day her son visited from 100 miles away. She had been a fashion photographer in the '30s in Germany and 60 years later still had to work w/ uncooperative models.
Michael, you never said "Who ARE you?" ?? 😂 I mean, seriously, she was probably dying to be asked. She must have been a proper pro. Love this, though. When you're a short older woman, attitude is all. Oh, and lovely pics of both of you, even if B was grumpy about it!
Since she never said a word until the end, I never thought to. And by then I was just laughing so hard, I still didn't think of it. I mean the look she gave me when I said we were from the US was priceless...
What a fantastic story for the future. One that is happy and will no doubt be looked upon with great fondness. We have a lot of Mary Poppins / Nanny McPhee elderly ladies here in Aus. They all just want to take care of us younger ones who clearly cannot get things done properly. Asian, European, American, Oceanian (is that even a word?). Plain and simple, we’d never do without our nannas, nonnas, bibis, meemaws, omas, et al - power to our old dears!
Brent is so right! The places we see when traveling are wonderful, but it’s the people we meet along the way who we will remember forever. Keep those photos and stories coming!
Hilarious! A fun read and wonderful encounter. So close to the nail for me too. My husband hates having his photos taken and his face is always a picture (lol!) when a kind passer-by offers to take one of the two of us. THEN he has the nerve to SPOIL the picture with a scowl and complain about him 'always taking a bad photo'. Arrrggg!
This one made me laugh out loud. First, I'm the one who takes too many pictures - I think it was just last week that Paul said, for the thousandth time, can we just walk along the river, without photos or commentary? Sure, I said, not at all sure I could do that. Anyway, this is great. Waiting for my Mary Poppins to appear....
(My partner loves pausing to take photos as much as I do. We'd never ever remember all we do if we didn't. That said, I don't like most photos of myself, and I won't post myself online in clearly identifiable ways, as that makes me freak out just a tad. =)

Okay, that's a GREAT story! Not the non-consensual part of course. But I would love something similar happening to me!

Brent's mom had Alzheimers and those are the kinds of moments you just have to find the humor in.

We have to find her and make her a YouTube star! 😂
Only if I get a finder's fee!
Absolutely fair! I'm not one to ask creatives to work for nothing!
😏😏😏
Oops! Um, hi, Brent!
Nothing gets by me. I see EVERYTHING. Remember that. 🤣

They are the best...
And PS she’s rocking the fashion stakes too at the end of Cup week. Love that dress. The hat is perfect.
Isn't she just!
Thanks for starting my day with a good laugh. This post was simply the best.
Anytime!

Your wish is my command!
LOL. I felt like I was right there! And I think your Annie Leibovitz might have been my neighbor on Maui. Tiny, pushy soulmates.
If I see her again, I'll ask!
Oh, my Annie is long gone. That was more than 50 years ago!
Related maybe?
🤣🤣🤣

Aren't us husbands the worst! LOL.
😳😳😳🫤🫤🫤😑😑😑
Great story! And great photos!
Thank you!
This is great! I hope this woman is around when we're in Sydney!
Well, you know what she looks like!

Yeah, I'm constantly making promises I struggle to keep....
A great story. And if that last shot of the three of you is the one taken by Nanny McPhee, then SHE'S the real photographer.
I love her so much!

I get not posting pictures of yourself. It took me years to start doing it. Now, of course, I am shameless! 😝
Ha ha ha . Great story guys.
Thanks!
Sounds like a win win for all involved, and pictures are great
I'd like to think so. And thank you!
Great story!
Thanks!
