This is amazing! As a soon-to-be digital nomad, it will be my goal to look for a rotisserie chicken everywhere I go, haha. I have it a lot here in America, but you have me dreaming of what it will taste like in other countries :)
I welcome all suggestions! I've been following y'all for over 2 years now, but at first, I never imagined I could actually be a digital nomad, but things have changed for the better and I'll be starting my journey just before I turn 40 :)

Michael, a thousand thanks for this. I noticed how tasteless chicken was when I arrived in the US (and this is a Brit complaining about bland food!) Several years ago, I stopped buying supermarket chickens (even the allegedly "better" ones) I now buy only pastured birds from a farmer I know (shout out to Bryant Family Farms in Madison, WI!) Each costs about $20 and I use every bit of the bird, including my own stock. Worth it.

Hi Michael and Brent, I agree those chickens sure vary in taste. Our local Amish market in Easton Maryland has excellent rotisserie chickens. Large list of No additives and free range $10 for a 2+ pound chicken. Recently my wife had surgery the doctor said I need to hear where you folks get chicken. My wife had been on a 7 day water fast and dreamed of Amish chicken during surgery.
We visited Molokai for 3 weeks during a 3 month Hawaii scuba adventure. If you want chicken in Molokai you must order and show up at noon on Wednesday. Tuesday is ukulele sing along at coffee plantation. The first night at condo pool a lady was setting up for a party. I said hi and introduced myself. She said bring your wife to party and I will introduce you to most of Molokai. A year later we watch Anthony Borden special on Molokai. You guessed it we knew everyone on show.
We scuba dived off Molokai with humpback whales in the area. We could hear the songs and feel the songs in the chest very powerful. My wife also enjoyed Lomi Lomi massage and healing classes.
On the big island the best chickens are at the Mauna Lani food market.
I don't often get jealous of other folks' travels but I'm officially jealous of that Molokai story! I hope your wife is fully recovered and devouring chicken!
Excellent account of the worldwide rotisserie chicken business. At the start I worried you weren't going to get into the Costco nastyiness, but you did a bang-up job. I'm a big fan of you guys. I think we were in Istanbul hanging around the Balat/Fener area at the same time a year or so ago. Didn't meet then but maybe someday somewhere down the road. Travel well. @davidhunterbishop @realontheroad
Thanks very much, David. Appreciate the kind words! Just followed you on Twitter. Ah, Balat! What a lovely part of town. It would be great to meet up somewhere!

Also, food suggestions are always appreciated :D
What kind of food suggestions are you looking for?

That's great but unfortunate you have to pay so much!
Indeed! But making lots of stock also encourages healthy (and otherwise vegetarian) soup consumption, so there's that.
Great post, thank you! I eat mostly vegetarian because of the issues you raise with how meat is "produced" in the US.
Which I totally get!
I don't normally read food articles, but this was so entertaining and informative. Now I want to go out and buy a local rotisserie chicken!
Did you get one! LOL.

I was reading this right before bed. Now I'm hungry!
LOL. Sorry about that!
Damn it, Michael! Now I have to go and wipe the drool off my phone. 🍗🙄
Thankfully most phones are now very drool-proof! LOL
